AI days

The AI days were organized by the 9 KPAs and 5 Clusters of the University of Cologne.

The AI Days – from February 19 to 20, 2026, at the University of Cologne – aim to connect different research disciplines and create a network of researchers who use AI for various research questions. As part of the “Interdisciplinary Perspectives on AI and Data-Intensive Research” program, many lectures, two poster sessions, a session with breakout roundtables, and a panel discussion on the topic of “AI in 10 Years” took place.

From the field of meteorology, postdoctoral researcher Christoph Böhm presented his current research on “Satellite-based remote sensing of fog in the Atacama Desert” during the AI Days. This research topic is part of CRC 1211 “Earth – Evolution at the Dry Limit.”

Three scientists from the field of computer science gave very different presentations: Aleksandar Bojchevski held the tutorial “The Dimensions of Trust in AI”,  Stefan Wesner reported on “Brain meets Brawn – How to Provide Scalable AI Infrastructure Services Now, Soon, and Someday” with the subtitle “RAMageddon is Here,” and Tatiana von Landesberger spoke about “Visual Data and Model Communication: The Role of AI and Humans.”

Mathematician Axel Klawonn provided insights into his research topics on “Scientific Machine Learning with Applications in Medicine and Materials Science.”

Further details can be found in the complete program.
