What: The program will support early postdocs for short-term visits in the framework of the semester of Algorithmic Earth System Science AlgoEarth to collaborate intensely on an ambitious research project. The goal is to bring together researchers from Algorithm Design, Machine Learning and Earth Observations that are interested in interdisciplinary research on the algorithmic challenges arising from new earth observation systems such as satellites, etc. to exploit their full potential for modelling and analyzing the earth system, in particular, for weather and climate prediction. The program will cover travel and lodging and provide office space during these weeks.

When and where: One to four weeks at the University of Cologne, Germany during the semester of Algorithmic Earth System Science AlgoEarth time span (October 2025 to February 2026).

Who: International postdocs who are enthusiastic about connecting different research areas, explaining their research for the other community in a comprehensible way and establishing a new community combining these different research areas.

  1. Project title
  2. Your name and affiliation, as well as a short CV
  3. Scientific agenda of the collaboration, explaining its impact and timeline, how it fits with the mission of AlgoEarth, and planned collaboration partners within AlgoEarth
  4. Past collaborations and synergies among the applicants and AlgoEarth community, indicating why and how the applicant would benefit from the program (Page limit: ~one page for 3. and 4.)
